Albendazole Suspension

Albendazole Suspension is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic medication used to treat parasitic worm infections in adults and children. It works by inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin in worms, disrupting their energy metabolism and leading to their eventual death. This suspension is effective against a variety of parasitic worms, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, pinworms, and tapeworms. It is particularly useful in the treatment of single or mixed infections, as well as hydatid disease and neurocysticercosis caused by Taenia solium. The suspension formulation is easy to administer, especially for children and individuals with swallowing difficulties.

Recommended Usage:

• Indications:
  • Treatment of intestinal helminths such as roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms.
  • Management of pinworm and tapeworm infections.
  • Treatment of systemic infections, including hydatid cysts and neurocysticercosis.
• Dosage and Administration:
  • For intestinal infections:
    • Adults and children over 2 years: 10-15 mL as a single dose or as directed by a healthcare provider.
    • Repeat after 2 weeks if reinfection is suspected.
  • For systemic infections (e.g., hydatid disease or neurocysticercosis):
    • Dose varies based on body weight and condition severity. Follow a healthcare provider’s prescription.
  • Shake the bottle well before use. Administer with or without food.
  • Avoid concurrent use with fatty foods, as it may increase absorption and side effects.
• Precautions:
  • Not recommended for individuals with known hypersensitivity to albendazole or other benzimidazole derivatives.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; liver function tests may be required during prolonged use.
  • Pregnant women should avoid this medication, especially during the first trimester. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during treatment.
  • Report any adverse effects, such as abdominal discomfort or skin rash, to a healthcare provider promptly.
