Apixaban Tablet

Apixaban Tablets 2.5 mg is an oral anticoagulant belonging to the class of direct factor Xa inhibitors. It is used to prevent and treat thromboembolic disorders by inhibiting factor Xa, an essential enzyme in the blood clotting process. This action helps reduce the formation of blood clots, thereby lowering the risk of stroke, systemic embolism, and other clot-related complications. Apixaban is commonly prescribed for patients at risk of or diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or pulmonary embolism (PE). The low-dose formulation of 2.5 mg is particularly suited for patients requiring tailored anticoagulant therapy.
Recommended Usage:
- Indications:
- Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
- Prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism (VTE) following orthopedic surgeries such as hip or knee replacement.
- Treatment and prevention of recurrence of DVT and PE.
- Dosage and Administration:
- The typical dosage for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation patients is 2.5 mg taken twice daily.
- For postoperative VTE prevention, 2.5 mg is administered twice daily, starting 12–24 hours after surgery for the duration recommended by the healthcare provider.
- Administer with or without food.
- Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with renal or hepatic impairment, or those on concomitant medications affecting apixaban metabolism.
- Precautions:
- Contraindicated in patients with active pathological bleeding or severe hepatic impairment.
- Use with caution in patients with an increased risk of bleeding, such as those with recent surgery, peptic ulcers, or coagulopathy.
- Avoid abrupt discontinuation without medical advice, as it may increase the risk of thrombotic events.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding use should only occur if clearly needed, under medical supervision.
- Regular monitoring is recommended in patients with renal impairment or advanced age.
